Coming Home to Your Body

The Power of Opening the Hips
The Power of Opening the Hips

At the very center of our body lies a deep and powerful muscle called the psoas. It connects the spine to the legs, and more importantly, it serves as a bridge between body and mind—constantly communicating with the nervous system. When we feel unsafe, threatened, or even just off-balance, the psoas is the first to react. It’s part of our fight, flight, or freeze response, and it tightens to protect us—whether we’re startled by a sudden noise or just navigating uncertain ground.

But here’s the thing: the psoas doesn’t only respond to danger. It also reacts to our modern habits—too much sitting, walking on hard pavement, wearing restrictive clothing. Over time, it becomes tight not just from physical strain, but from the emotional and mental load we carry. When the psoas is constricted, it can show up as lower back pain, hip tension, digestive discomfort, shallow breathing, or a general sense of unease.

This isn’t a muscle that simply needs to be “stretched.” It needs to be listened to. It needs safety, slowness, and softness to release. When we approach the hips with loving attention—not as a problem to fix, but as a wise part of us to befriend—we begin to unwind years of held tension. And in doing so, we feel more grounded, more at ease in our bodies, and more fully alive.

This October, I invite you to join me for a weekend of deep nourishment and feminine embodiment. We’ll explore hip-opening and hip-strengthening practices, supported by mindfulness, breathwork, and community. Together, we’ll create the conditions for the psoas—and the whole body—to soften and trust again.

Let’s take this time to come home to ourselves and creating better mobility, stability and balance.

With love,

Jennifer
