When Ease Moves Us Forward… and When Discomfort Does
How many times in life has ease moved you forward to something better? And how many times has fear, anger, or discomfort been the real catalyst for change?
It is a question worth pausing with.
Ease, joy, and comfort sustain us. They give us rest, clarity, and balance. But when we look honestly, it is often the more difficult emotions that nudge us into growth. Fear can wake us up to what truly matters. Anger can spark courage to speak our truth. Discomfort can push us out of what no longer serves us and into the unknown.
Neither path is better. Both ease and challenge shape us. Yet reflecting on them can shift our perspective.
Here's a simple practice to help see your patterns and resilience without judgment:
Make two lists.
Times in your life when ease, comfort, or joy moved you forward.
Times in your life when fear, discomfort, or challenge moved you forward.
Look at both lists and notice: Which one feels longer? Which one feels more alive with transformation?
And here is the important part:
The situation itself does not get the credit. You do. It was not the challenge that made you stronger. It was you choosing to keep going. It was not the hardship that gave you courage. It was your willingness to step forward anyway.
The world offers both ease and difficulty. Both can be teachers. Both can move us forward. But the strength, the resilience, the wisdom, that is yours to keep.
